To DIY Or Not To DIY…That Is the Marketing Question!

There’s a whole spectrum of ways you can approach marketing that covers everything from totally DIY through to 100% outsourcing. What we need to figure out is the best place for the one person who needs to be happy with the balance: YOU.

Of course, you have to have oversight and take responsibility for the overall direction, but that’s something very different from trying to do every tiny little task all by yourself. The only thing this approach guarantees is burnout, and that’s never a good thing.

The idea is to think about how to balance the equation between effort and reward. You could work all the hours in the day trying to do everything yourself and get very little back at the end of it. Or you could outsource key tasks, selected tasks or little tasks to experts. The idea is to free yourself up to focus on what you do best and make the most of your free time all at once. You get to choose!

You could always start by getting an overview from a pro and then implementing their approach. This would be like a roadmap that takes you from A to B to C and then wherever else you want to get to. But that’s only the beginning of the journey…

The key is to find an approach that you feel comfortable with. Certainly, one way is totally to do it yourself. But there are other approaches. Some entrepreneurs choose to get help finding the right person to take care of key tasks like copywriting or design or placement. Others like having a pro to organize and critique new work to help add that all-important final polish. And others simply want a pro to handle the whole load from start to finish.

Why am I telling you what other people do when this is all about YOU? Because I want you to know that when it comes to marketing your business, there is really no one-size-fits-all approach. Finding something that matches your skills, time, and importantly, the money you can commit to any project, especially when you are starting out – that is the issue. It’s about feeling in control of the exciting new journey you’re about to take your business on.
